Becoming a MO PLC Project School involves a major commitment on the part of the teachers and administrators who choose to use this as a school improvement initiative. Currently, PLC Resource Specialists work with schools in nine regions across the state of Missouri to develop a culture of learning by concentrating upon eight strands of the Professional Learning Communities curriculum. These strands are:
Strand #1: Foundation for Learning Community Culture
Strand #2: How Effective Building - Level Leadership Teams Work
Strand #3: Administrative Leadership
Strand #4: How Effective Teams Work
Strand #5: What Students Need to Know and Do
Strand #6: Assessment For/Of Learning
Strand #7: Systematic Process for Intervention/Student Success
Strand #8: Continuous ImprovementDuring the current 2011-2012 school year, there are a total of 292 school buildings actively involved in PLC work throughout the state of Missouri. Of those schools, 76 of them are in their first year of implementation, 76 are in their second year, and 114 are in their third year. Also, 26 schools are continuing PLC work beyond the third year.
